Gene & Lisa Ens
Growing up on the farm in Saskatchewan taught me many life lessons. The most important of these were: work hard and stay positive. At the age of 12 I applied these lessons and landed my first job delivering papers, shortly after babysitting, and then splitting firewood to what would prove to be a lengthy list and for the next 15 years I started and left 30+ more jobs in search of more income, freedom, fulfillment and recognition with the idea that if I wanted to have more I needed to work more.
At 27, now married to my wife Lisa, with 2 young children, I started my 37th and last JOB, working for one of the best paying companies in the Okanagan Valley. We had no quality of life with me working 60+ hours a week and somehow, we were still struggling financially, just like every other family in the neighbourhood. We decided to run an ad in the local paper, to do odd jobs together to supplement our income. The ad began, “Santa’s little helpers.... We will clean your yard, put up your lights, shovel your snow..... whatever you need...”. As fate would have it Bev Sheldon spotted our ad and scheduled a time for us to meet. We loved what she and TEAM CANADA stood for and what they did however, I told her I was not interested in working in finance because I had a “good union’ job. My wife Lisa and I did choose to become clients as we quickly recognized what Bev’s coaching could do for us on a personal finance level. Fast forward a year and a half, many life changes and multiple layoffs so when Bev called to check in I was ready to make a move. Tired of spinning our wheels, no freedom of time, living pay cheque to pay cheque, tired of having someone else dictate where we lived, what car we drove, when and where we went on vacation, with no end in sight, I made the career shift and am so grateful I did!
Lisa and I got married to spend our lives together, not spend our days apart, rolling in the door exhausted and spent with no energy to enjoy our lives, our children or each other. With my education in finance and hers in human services we joined forces to work together towards the life of purpose, significance, freedom, recognition and success we could not find anywhere else but TEAM CANADA. Gratefully for the past 25+ years we made the choice to work side by side always choosing our family
and each other first, work when and where we want and with whom we want. No Boss, no salary cap, no ceiling, no layoffs...
Today we are blessed to work together alongside of a team spanning across the country and are so honoured to work with our children in our multigenerational family agency. The team we are growing is family and it is a privilege to work with the organization we have built. Our daughter and son in law are our right hand, soon to open a brokerage of their own and our son, on the left, handles all of our IT needs. Working together with our family and TEAM CANADA we are confident we will have significant impact for generations to come.
TEAM CANADA has provided us with a vehicle to achieve HONOUR, SIGNIFICANCE & LEGACY. We are INVIVTUS, TOGETHER UNCONQUERABLE.
