Paulo & Idalia Pereira
Growing up, I never imagined I would have a career in financial services, because my parents were non-English speaking immigrants who worked in the trades. Prior to Primerica, I worked as a collection manager with the government of Ontario, refereed ice hockey and catered events on weekends. My wife Idalia worked full time with Bell Canada. After a few years, of working multiple jobs 7 days a week, I realized that there had to be a better opportunity elsewhere.
One night in 1996, after catering a wedding, the groom, asked if I kept my career options open. We exchanged numbers and met a few times. At first, I didn’t understand a lot about the products, but I soon understood the products I owned would hinder my financial freedom. I found out that a friend of the family had sold me a life insurance policy instead of an education savings program.
I am grateful for the information that I received 26 years ago because it propelled me into a mission to help improve the financial literacy of other families.
Today, both of my daughters Meghan and Kayla, have post-secondary degrees and are successful in their fields. They did not have to worry about tuition and were able to graduate debt free because of the tools Idalia and I put into place.
Today we have ownership of our business, which allows us to sell or transfer our business to our daughters. Over the last 12 months we have been paid over $250,000 and currently get paid over $14,000 in monthly trails. If we had stayed with government of Ontario and Bell Canada, our Pension plans would pay us about $9,000 combined at age 60.
Idalia and I are currently focused on creating memories with our daughters and helping different charitable organizations. We also enjoy planning multiple trips throughout the year without having to worry about money. These are a few of the things I know would not be possible if we were still working with the government of Ontario and Bell Canada.
We are just getting started and the best is yet to come!
