Troy Girard & Family
I grew up on a farm in a small rural town in Alberta and had very limited belief in myself. I didn’t do well in school and in Junior high, I was conditionally passed to the next grade due to my low marks. I never learned much in school until grade 11 & 12 where I excelled in auto-body & mechanics. I graduated school with honours only in that field. At the age of 18 I went to work in the Alberta Oil patch. After the oil slowdown I learned to drive truck and (because nobody actually trusted me to drive their truck) I became an owner-operator of my own Semi. I bought my first truck for $65,000 and financed it at 18.5%! I had no idea what that even meant financially a the time. I drove through 48 states and 6 provinces through some of the roughest terrain in North America during my time as a truck driver.
In 1988 my brother Brad convinced me to go to some meeting that he was excited about. I was reluctant but he told me he’d take me for dinner afterwards. During that meeting, I saw the opportunity of this business and was excited about the crusade and helping others. I canceled the order on the new semi I had previously ordered and had planned to use to expand my career in the trucking industry. I sold my old truck and began my career in financial services along with Brad. It was absolutely not the smoothest of transitions but I learned as I went.
I became a student of the business and industry and applied what I learned from books and my own mistakes. Looking back on a proud 30 years since that day in 1988, I have been paid over 5 Million dollars in career cash. I would have made hardly a fraction of that if I hadn’t made the decision to change careers and make the uncomfortable jump into a new industry. Everyday I am grateful for the opportunity to build a legacy with my family that will pass down to future generations!
Shannon spent many years working in the banking industry and during all her time there, never learned about the actual rules to the money game that we teach the families we serve. When she learned what we do she became excited to teach others how to save money and become debt free. She also had worked for a large Canadian Investment company and while she made good money there she did not have time freedom. As a Mother of 5 kids that was important to her. It became even more important when our youngest child was born with special needs. So
she quit her job to help build the family business and has been able to do that around her family living life from event to event.
Our son Zachary has since made the plunge from his previous career to help build on our family legacy and our daughter Madison is our co-office manager and the biggest cheerleader on our team.
